Ashore in the New Land

Fireworks lit the night sky and went on for hours. Settlers gathered on deck and gazed at the colorful explosions but they all had one eye on the shore just visible from the ship. The sandy beaches and the forested hills looked familiar enough but they knew that something unknow awaited them, an unwritten chapter in their life. In a few hours the weeks spent aboard the ship would fade into a distant memory as they toiled to make a good start in the new land.

The final cascade detonated with turquoise lights sweeping from the ship toward the island and the gates in the railings were opened. Eager travellers poured down into the smaller boats which would take them ashore. Two dozen went in the first wave. Later that same day three dozen more. They set sight on the bay they had chosen for their landfall. The beaches were enormous and just beyond them ample forests where they could cut their first logs. Mountains towered over the horizon, unlike any seen in the land of Liberty.

The settlers wasted no time. All along the coast trees were felled and turned into small houses. Some did not stop to make even a hut but burrowed into the ground. Eventually they all dug deep tunnels in the hopes of finding their first diamonds. It was not long until they resurfaced with newfound riches. Ten members of Mein Kraft went ashore in the very first boat but did not stay on the beach. They were spotted heading inland but were not seen by anyone after that. Rumors spread that while the rest were building coastal farmsteads, the clan was already pressing ahead toward the Void and preparing to fight the Voider Wyvern.

Dozens of small settlements were established along the shores. Most notable was an island where half a dozen settlers took shelter and built homesteads. They were so close to each other that they formed the first village of the new world. They called their island Ite and invited others to join them and build a town. But they were restless, eager to explore. They knew that their main settlements would likely be established far away from the pleasant beaches where their journey in the new land began.
