Claims

Introduction

Private property is primarily protected by claims. When you claim land, only you can build on it, except if you give another player permission to build in the claim.

On a technical level, this feature is implemented through a server plugin called GriefPrevention.

Creating claims

To claim land you first need claim blocks, which can be bought for diamond dollars. Claim blocks cost $1000 each (one tenth of a diamond). To buy 10 claim blocks, use this command: /buyclaim 10

To create a claim, use a gold axe and right-click two corners of the rectangle of land you want to claim.

Here is a video tutorial (but please note that in The Finite Frontier we use a gold axe, not a gold shovel):

Working with claims

To resize a claim, click a corner with a gold axe and then click another spot to move the corner. You can also use the command /extendclaim [number of blocks] while holding a gold axe and looking in the direction in which you want to expand.

To examine existing claims, use a stick. Point it toward a claim and right-click.

Commands

For more details, including how to set permissions, create subclaims, abondon claims and more—see this list of commands.

The command /claimlist shows a list of all you claims. Use /claimtop to see how many claim blocks other users have.

To keep track of your claims by naming them, do /nameclaim [name] while standing inside a claim.

Here is a full list of claim commands. It is mostly copied from this page in the official documentation but modified to exactly match the configuration of the Finite Frontier.

Real estate

Claims can be bought and sold as real estate using a special kind of signs. To sell a claim, place a sign within the claim with [re] on the first line and the price on the second line. If you leave the second line blank, the price will be calculated based on the claim block value.

Auctions

As an alternative to selling a piece of land for a fixed price, you also have the option of putting it up for auction.

To create an auction, place a sign in the claim you want to sell, type [ac] on the first line, and the lowest acceptable bid on the second line. If you leave the second line blank, the price will be calculated based on the claim block value.

When a claim is put up for auction, it is converted into an admin claim. To cancel an auction you started, stand in the claim and type /gpacancel.

To place a bid in an auction, right-click the sign. Every click increases the price by 1%. To see the current status without bidding, hold shift and right-click. The price displayed on the sign is the next possible bid, i.e. 1% higher than the current highest bid.

More information about auctions here.

Claim expiration

Claims expire if the owner does not login for 30 days. Expired claims are sold through an auction system. Participate in auctions by clicking the sign which appears in the north-west corner of the claim.
