Server Design Ideas
Ideas for future servers/worlds
If we reset The Frontier and replace it with a series of temporary worlds with varying sets of rules and configurations, what are some of the ideas we could build upon?
Geography
Smaller worlds. This creates precious scarcity and is not a big problem if the worlds are not meant to be multi-year projects.
Nudge players to stay closer together rather than spread out. Encourage sprawling towns.
Overworld only! No fast nether travel, no elytra, no shulker boxes.
Economy
- Cheaper claim blocks.
- Pricier claim blocks.
- Multiple currencies (one for trading, one for claiming?)
Property protection
Limited ability to claim
- Only a certain part of the world can be claimed
- Claims can only be made in certain dimensions
- Max number of claim blocks per player
- Different types of claims. Expensive ones with strong protection, cheap ones more like public areas e.g. with trust all.
- Relative rather than absolute protection. Blocks can be broken but it requires great effort.
Try property protection plugins other than GriefPrevention.
Try anarchy mechanics in a world or parts of a world or a dimension. Let's see how the LMC/FF community does with a Hermitcraft-style honor system.
Game mechanics
- Villagers. Remove them? Empower them? Remove golem spawning? Remove quartz trade?
- Mending. Should it stay, be restricted, or go entirely? A complete restriction would entail removing the enchantment from:
- villager trading system (Librarians in terms of books, and in terms of pre-enchanted items it would have to be removed from Fishermen, Fletchers, Toolsmiths, Weaponsmiths, Armorers)
- fishing loot (both in terms of books and pre-enchanted rods/bows)
- jungle temple and stronghold chest loot
- pre-enchanted items in End cities
- possibly other sources?
- (post 1.16) Shulker duplication farms?
- No elytra? Scarce gunpowder?
- Remove all enchanted books and items from fishing loot?
- Keep nether dimension but create 1:1 with overworld instead of 8:1. No fast travel
Miscellaneous
- Soft banning by declaring lawlessness. Banned player gets to stay but gets PVP permanently enabled, is unable to create claims and can not have a cash balance.
- Ability to transfer a shulker of your items of choice (with some exceptions/nerfs) into the next world.
