The Journey from Liberty
Countless tales are told about the Old World. Some claim to have been there themselves and experienced its ancient glories. Youngsters are not unwise to be doubtful. They can hardly be blamed when there is so much to marvel at right before their very eyes in the New World.
In the New World empires were built and towns sprung up all across the countryside. The Nether was tamed and rail was laid to make infernal hollows safe for travel and commerce. The riches enjoyed by the people of Liberty in the waning days of that world were legendary. Even common folk took to the skies with wings brought back by the intrepid explorers of the Void. Even the most far flung of the Lilac Towers had been conquered and liberated of their treasure.
For as long as anyone could remember Liberty was ruled by the Philosopher King. His storied wisdom was the pillar of society. At times his steely resolve was hard for some to stomach and occasionally even prominent Proprietors departed from Liberty to try their luck elsewhere. What remained was a people united in their trust for the King. Under his steadfast supervision Liberty thrived, until one day the King pronounced his chilling Prophecy.
The wealth and leisure enjoyed by the people of Liberty made the announcement all the more shocking, as the King declared that their world was doomed. Fortune no longer favored the lands of Liberty, he said, for in the very heart of Liberty there was Treason and Corruption. In less than one year from that day, the King proclaimed, a great darkness would come over the realm and all living things would be suspended, at the same time dead and alive, as if Time itself had ceased.
Despondent denizens of Liberty gathered to inquire – what could be done? Would they now set out without a common purpose and be scattered among lesser realms? At that time a small group of Adventurers returned to the shores of Liberty after scouting the far reaches of the Western Sea. They told of a vast expanse of virgin land. Further away than anyone in Liberty had travelled heretofore and with natural beauty beyond anything seen in the New World or the Old.
The wealthy Merchants and Proprietors of Liberty resolved to secure a new beginning in the land beyond the Sea. They commissioned a ship, larger than any which had sailed the seas of Liberty. When word spread of this venture, even some Merchants who had left Liberty after falling out of the King’s good graces vowed to join the expedition. An entire winter was spent building and equipping the ship before she finally set sail.
After a long journey, the first thing the settlers saw above the Horizon was the isle of Landfall. There was consternation among them. Surely, this tiny rock in the Sea could not be the immense Territory foretold by the pioneers. Nevertheless, outposts were built at The Forks of the jungle rivers and at Emerald Farm by the foot of the mountain. For a time these settlements thrived. But explorers grew restless and soon set sail again to find the promised Continent.
In the first days of the new year they finally reached their destination. The ship sailed along an alien coast for days on end. This new realm was indeed far larger even than the land of Liberty. A great variety of landscapes could be seen, from deserts and jungles to snow-covered plains. Mighty rivers joined the Ocean from the hidden depths of the land. Eager to leave the life of the Sea behind, the settlers set sight on a pleasant Bay in a region of temperate climate.
The Voyage across the Sea has come to an end, but the Adventure has just begun…
