Wicked Wizards Begone

In the first moons of settling the Frontier, the continent seemed entirely uninhabited. A few natives were found but they were all in a bad state. Fallen from civilization, they did not even have proper dwellings or plantations and they were all sick from a fearsome poison which warped their minds.

The settlers speculated that this land had never been the home of any people. The shipwrecks along the coast was proof that many had tried, but seemingly none had succeeded in establishing a colony. Was this truly a pristine realm unsoiled by thinking and crafting beings?

In time it became clear that this was not the case. Heavily armed guards were stationed in towers in remote parts of the land. Perhaps the remains of settlements which met some terrible fate which only a few fighting men survived. And even more disturbing discoveries followed

On one of her expeditions, Sharonclaws found an underground laboratory where prisoners were kept in cages. One of them was a native who had not yet succumbed to the voodoo poison. Perhaps the only sane native, kept like an animal behind iron bars. Clearly, the savagery of nature was not the only force tormenting this land. There was also evil.

At a later time the intrepid explorer of Emerald Clan made her most momentous discovery yet. Deep in the southern forests, perched on top of a small mountain, was a castle. Although built from fine materials and very elegant, it was a dark and ominous place. There had been no forest palaces in Liberty but the settlers had heard stories about such houses and their terrible masters – evil wizards, the flying demons they summoned and their axe-wielding manservants!

Sharonclaws immediately called on her clan and was joined by Cardano and Scrubjay. Together they made short work of the wizards, thus sparing future passersby from their wicked conjuring. The victorious clan was rewarded not only with loot from treasure chests but also the castle itself.

What will become of this sinister place? If nothing else it will serve as a warning to other settlers: Beware of what lurks in the dark of the deep forest! It also stands as a testament to the power of a family joining forces and fighting back to back. That is a form of magic for which even evil sorcerers are no match.
